Cross selling during economic crisis, and the stupidity of customers
Do we really need all the accessories. Do we really need all the additional stuff, not taken in consideration when buying a product, that can double it’s overall price? we actually don’t, but customization is what makes our product different from another one( car, house, mp3 player, PC – all with different accessories available know with this special offer:D)
It all started with the revolution of self. The main idea ? You have to be different! Why? Because you have to manifest YOUR personality? Why? So that big companies can use that to convince you that you need a product that can fit your personality even if you don’t actually need it, and paying more to have it customized.
I’m not saying that it is a bad thing to have a personality and manifest it, but don’t be stupid. You have many choices as a person, as an individual, but as a customer you don’t, even if you think u=you have, all the products on the market are strategically placed there, after many research,samples, focus groups, quality research, and statistical analysis that result in a positive percent of acceptance by the targeted audience that are convinced to buy that product so that they can be socially accepted.
I think that many customers don’t actually know what they want. We live in a branded world, in a fake world of desires, wishes and dreams all created in ad agencies with the purpose of mass selling, and profit margins.
I wounder where will this lead!?
Take some time and watch a great documentary about consumerism in america. It’s called “A century of self” , and maybe you will think twice before buying and customizing your dream car for example.
